About George & Frank

George Brima Jah, and Frank Siebure are Day Workers from Sierra Leone, who work in the OR Sterilizing Room with Jane McIntosh, see Pender Jane. Both are young men in their early twenties, who have seen a lot of hardship and disruption in their lives – especially through Sierra Leone’s 10 year civil war. Despite their negative experiences in life, Frank and George have worked hard to keep moving forward, and to maintain a positive outlook on life.

Currently, to get ahead in Sierra Leone is extremely difficult. Unemployment rates are above 70%. Employers do not value local education degrees. Public internet services are extremely limited, and very expensive. Home internet services are rare, costly and highly unpredictable. Internet courses are almost impossible to achieve.

George and Frank wish to join as Crew Members on the African Mercy, in order to try to get ahead in their lives. They wish to obtain a laptop each, so that they could take internet courses while on board, and thereby continue their education. They value experiencing other African countries, and learning and living with 35 different cultures while on board the ship.

Supporting George and Frank is a tangible way of helping two great young adults move forward for a better life, and a brighter future.
