It's a reality check for all of us, young and old, yet another reminder that life is precious, and that we never know our own number of days.

Whether long or short, we need to remember to be present, to be available, to love, laugh, and share. We need to embrace this world and those in it, to forgive, to atone, to make peace.

If I had to choose, yes, to choose...if I did,
Would it be to live long or well,
Would I choose many years or a passion for life,
A slow dwindle or grand farewell?

Would I squander the years, if I had a long stretch,
With the thought that another day,
I would start or I'd finish, or get involved,
Knowing time wouldn't get in the way?

Would I choose a quick spell that was lived very well,
Days of ardor and passion and zeal,
Would I love, would I laugh, hold the world in awe,
In a span that was short but real?

If I had to choose, yes, to choose...if I did,
Would it be to live well or long,
Would I fritter & fume or flower & bloom,
Ending life with or without my song?
